Should I do SEO for my website?
If you are wanting to grow your business without spending ad dollars, then SEO is one of the foundations you should use to convert customers, so yes, you should be doing SEO.
If you are reading this, then your competitor is probably ranking higher than you, and you are trying to figure out how to bring in more customers.
It doesn't matter if you are doing social media or if you are doing rented leads. Building a strong presence with your website is one of the core foundational ways to build trust with your customer, and most important of all, to convert them. So it would stand to reason that having a good website that is built for conversion is the best place to start.
But before you start, make sure you are not trying to build your SEO on a broken foundation.
How to know if my website is good enough to start
Before you start doing SEO, it is good to stop and see if you should rebuild your website or if you can start doing SEO on your current website. We are already building high-performance websites for businesses in Overland Park. On this page, it gives a little bit of a breakdown of what we build into the website, so you can see if you should start over.
The first thing you should look at is, from a design perspective, does your heart sink every time you open your website? Does it look cluttered, or is it a pretty clean navigation where customers can easily contact you? Oftentimes, especially with how easy it is to build websites today, it is easier just to rebuild and get the website that your business deserves.
Making sure that your navigation is good and that customers aren't getting a mental overload whenever they land on your website, as well as an easy path for customers to contact you, are some of the most important elements prior to doing SEO.
Also, it's probably a good idea to make sure that your page speed is good.
My website is already pretty good. Now what?
Aside from the basics that were covered in the above paragraph, doing SEO is not really about design; it is about building authority and matching search intent for people that are landing on the website. This is not something that can be done in the initial build, because oftentimes Google will choose not to index a page or pages. So by linking internally and building links externally at the same time, getting positive signals from people that are landing on your page, you build authority, which will raise the probability that your page will get indexed. For the person or company that is doing SEO, what they would do at that point is change the URL and then continue to build out the page to match search intent, so that whenever it gets added back onto your website, it is more likely to get indexed for the question that customers are asking.
Why you should be doing SEO
You should be doing SEO because not only does it bring in customers from being higher up in the search, it also decreases the need to spend as much on paid ads.
It builds authority to your website and continues to compound month after month, year after year, and continues to get more valuable as time goes on. A domain that is not ranking needs more authority, so by doing SEO and matching search intent, you are getting in front of the customers that you want. Your customers are clicking on your web page, which helps build authority, because you are matching search intent.
Like many things in life, SEO is not a get-rich-quick scheme; it is an investment that continues to pay dividends for years to come.
Why is SEO a monthly fee instead of just a one-time update?
Your authority on your website is not always the same, and by doing SEO, what we are doing is looking at what keywords Google is wanting to show us, what they are wanting to rank us for, and building pages and content around that keyword so that you can rank and in return get more traffic for that keyword.
Then we continue to update current pages and content so that Google can start ranking you. Oftentimes you have to change pages multiple times throughout a 6-month period of time in order to start ranking for an individual keyword.
So it's a job that really doesn't get done; you continue building on pages and building content in order to grow the traffic.
