Should I Post and Answer My Own Google Business Q&A?

Yes, post and answer your own questions in your Google Business Profile's Q&A section. Most owners don't even know it's there, and anyone, a customer or a competitor, can leave an answer with no check on whether it's true. Put up what people actually ask: pricing, service area, licensing, emergency hours, and answer it yourself, plainly. Do that and a random guess never becomes the only answer sitting on your listing.

A plumber's Google listing once had the question 'Do they work weekends?' answered by someone who'd never called the business, just a guess: 'probably not.' That's the risk with the Q&A box sitting right on your Business Profile in Google Search and Maps: any Google user, not a verified customer, not you, can post a question or an answer there. A competitor could answer wrong on purpose and nothing on Google stops them. Most home service owners set up their profile once and never come back to this tab, so a stranger's guess can sit there for months, visible to every customer who scrolls past your reviews, before anyone catches it. Answer What You Already Get Asked

Write down the questions your actual customers ask, then answer them yourself, plain and direct. Posting your own questions and answering them is allowed, no trick to it. Honestly, most of what belongs there is stuff you already say on the phone every week, and you don't need dozens, just the handful that come up most:

Answer each one the way you'd answer the phone, direct and specific. If you offer free estimates, say so and tell people how to get one, don't just answer 'yes' and leave it there. Skip the marketing language: it doesn't answer the question, and it just makes the listing feel like an ad instead of a business run by a real person.

  • What does a typical service call cost?
  • Do you offer free estimates?
  • What's your warranty on your work?

Stay On Top Of It

Check the Q&A section every couple weeks, because new questions and answers can get posted anytime by anyone. If you've claimed your listing, Google will email you when a new question comes in, but it doesn't always flag every new answer or upvote, so a manual look still matters. You generally can't delete a wrong answer someone else posted, only flag ones that break Google's rules. The real fix is beating them to it: post the right answer yourself, and if a customer or coworker is willing, have them mark it helpful so it moves higher.
